Most of the Van Roomens lived in the south of the Netherlands. Belgium was a part
of the Netherlands then. A branch of the Van Roomens lived in Antwerp, a very
important city at that time. Various spellings include: Van Rome, Van Roome,Van
Roomen, Van Romen and Roome. Many of the Roome line were brought to England to
drain the Fens. In the USA many are descendants of Peter Willemse Roome. They
date to the 1600's in New Amsterdam (New York City) and to 1630 in Rotterdam,
the Netherlands.
